Etihad Airways sets a goal of 33 million passengers by 2030

In its seven-year strategy, Journey 2030, the national airline of the UAE, Etihad Airways, has set the lofty goal of increasing its passenger volume to 33 million by the year 2030. During a keynote interview at the Dubai Airshow, Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad, discussed the company's achievements and goals for the future.

Over the past year, Etihad carried 13 million passengers, marking a 30% increase from 2022. The airline aims to return to its peak passenger numbers of 2017 by late 2024 or early 2025.

A Strategic Expansion Plan

Etihad aspires to grow its network to over 125 destinations as part of the Journey 2030 plan, capitalizing on its strategic position bridging Asia and Europe. The airline's objectives encompass expanding its fleet to exceed 160 aircraft, with a focus on linking shorter and medium-haul destinations within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), India, and Asia to longer routes in Europe and North America.

New locations, additional alternatives, and increased frequencies to important foreign markets are all part of the expansion.

Successful 2023 and Economic Benefits for Abu Dhabi

Etihad has experienced success in 2023, adding 12 new destinations, with plans for further routes in India, Boston, and Nairobi. The airline has expanded operations in key markets, increased flights, and improved connectivity across its network.

Journey 2030 also aims to bring substantial economic benefits to Abu Dhabi, targeting 10 million point-to-point travelers to the UAE capital by 2030, contributing to economic growth and job opportunities.

Strategic support and future growth

The seven-year strategy, Journey 2030, has the backing of Etihad's shareholder, ADQ, and it aims to ensure sustainable growth and improved customer experiences. Neves emphasized the airline's commitment to delivering extraordinary customer service and sustainable profitability, aligning with Abu Dhabi's aspirations.

As The recent opening of Terminal A at the new home airport is seen as a catalyst for future growth, providing the capacity and quality needed to accommodate guests.

As Etihad marks its 20th anniversary, Neves expressed excitement about the future, stating that Journey 2030 is the guiding plan propelling Etihad into the next chapter. The strategy aims to ensure that Etihad continues to delight customers, employees, and the nation, positioning itself as the airline everyone wants to fly with.
