Following the dissemination of information about the Emir's health crises on social media in August of last year, Kuwait refuted the claims.
In September 2020, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah succeeded his late brother, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, as the Emirate of Kuwait. The Emir has had multiple medical checks, according to prior announcements made by Kuwait's Amiri Diwan.
The Kuwaiti government declared in November 2021 that they had issued an order asking Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, to help them exercise part of the 86-year-old Emir's powers.
Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs at the time, stated without going into detail that "an Amiri order was issued seeking the assistance of the Crown Prince... to exercise some of the constitutional powers... of the Emir, on a temporary basis."
The Crown Prince continued to use some of the prince's authority, despite it being "temporary," appointing the final government in June 2023.
