New road project in Dubai to cut travel time by 70% in important areas

The project will provide smooth traffic flow between First Al Khail and Al Asayel streets and the two roads.

A recent road repair project is expected to reduce traffic in Dubai and travel times in important corridors, such as those leading to Sharjah, by as much as 70%. There will be four bridges built as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads intersection development project, spanning roughly three kilometers. As of Sunday, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) declared that fifty percent of the project was finished.

The project is a component of a larger initiative to modernize Garn Al Sabkha Street, which connects Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed and Sheikh Zayed roads. The design will guarantee smooth traffic movement between First Al Khail and Al Asayel streets and the two roads.

When the project opens, vehicles traveling from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road in the direction of Al Qusais and Sharjah would experience a 40% reduction in travel time.

"It will reduce travel times during peak hours from twenty minutes to just twelve." Additionally, it will reduce the travel time for vehicles traveling from Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Road in the direction of Jebel Ali Port by 70%, from 21 minutes to seven, according to Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the RTA Board of Executive Directors.

Four overpasses:

  • The first is being constructed at the junction of Al Asayel and Garn Al Sabkha streets. The traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed roads is facilitated by the two-lane bridge.
  • The second one handles traffic heading westward on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road toward Al Qusais and Sharjah from Garn Al Sabkha Street.
  • The third one gets rid of traffic that overlaps when traveling north on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road near Al Yalayis Road and Jebel Ali Port.
  • In the fourth, traffic overlap is removed between Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road and the service road that leads to Dubai Production City's entrances.
