Dubai: Employee retaliation against employer via TikTok leads to legal claims
In a quest for revenge against his former employer, an employee resorted to criminal actions that landed him in the legal system.
The Unleashment of Vengeance on Social Media
In a bid for retribution, a disgruntled employee employed nefarious tactics against his former employer, pushing the conflict into the legal realm. Leveraging the "Tik Tok" application, he launched an assault on the victim, employing offensive language, cautioning the public against the store, and even dubbing the proprietor as a "cheater."
Social media as a weapon
The social media platform "Tik Tok" became the battleground for this personal vendetta. The accused not only posted derogatory remarks but also shared proverbs, amplifying the impact of his campaign against the victim. Shockingly, these defamatory statements were disseminated through the victim's own company's account on the same platform.
Legal Intervention
Faced with the severe consequences of the online attack, the store owner took the matter to the authorities, initiating a legal process against the accused. The case progressed from public prosecution to court, with the accused charged with insulting the victim through the use of information technology.
Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Despite the gravity of the accusations, the victim opted for forgiveness, choosing reconciliation over prolonged legal battles. Providing evidence of their resolved differences, the victim communicated their willingness to move past the incident and drop the charges.
From Denial to Admission
Initially, the accused denied the allegations during the arrest report and public prosecution investigations. However, facing the court, he reversed his stance, admitting to the charges. To formalize the reconciliation, he presented a notarized waiver, signifying the victim's renunciation of the lawsuit.
Legal Decision and Closure
The court, in its decision, highlighted the requirement to prove the criminal intent behind the act of insulting. While evidence indicated the accused's intentional harm, the court acknowledged the reconciliation between the parties. Consequently, the case was deemed concluded, sparing both parties from further legal repercussions.
